S.E.R.T. Team
The Winnebago County Sheriff’s Emergency Response Team (S.E.R.T.) is an all-volunteer hazardous materials response unit under the direction of the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office. The Team consists of 12 members and officers with a variety of skills, along with five specialized vehicles and equipment.

The primary mission or responsibility of the Team is handling hazardous materials emergencies in order to stabilize the incident with the least amount of injury and/or damage. The Team also has a secondary mission to provide its service and assistance to the 17 area fire departments for any situation which warrants its use. S.E.R.T. also provides air and lights at the scene for the Winnebago Water Rescue and Recovery Team and assists local police agencies.

The Team is constantly upgrading equipment and in 2006 contributed more than 500 garage hours working on S.E.R.T. vehicles. In 2006, S.E.R.T. members also donated more than 1,060 hours of service to the county.  The S.E.R.T. volunteers are ready and willing to serve the needs of Winnebago County, 24 hours a day/seven days a week, whenever they are needed.
