 The Winnebago County Sheriff’s Police have three snowmobiles and four ATVs for patrol deployment and emergency situations. Several officers on the department are certified operators of both snowmobiles and ATVs. The snowmobiles are used during winter months to patrol the several hundred miles of snowmobile trails in the county. The snowmobiles are also used during extreme weather conditions when a squad car may not be able to respond immediately to a critical call.
The ATVs are used during the spring, summer and fall months to patrol ATV trails, forest preserve property and large undeveloped areas. The ATV’s are also used to respond to areas not readily accessible by foot or car.
