In 1996 a Winnebago County Sheriff’s Deputy was assigned to the Northern Illinois Auto Theft Task Force, a multi-agency unit comprised of representatives from six law enforcement agencies in Northern Illinois. This Deputy works the auto theft cases in the county, and falls under the supervision of the Detective Bureau Commander, with supervision of the Task Force falling to the Illinois State Police.
